Reliable sources confirm that Tarawally's suspension and administrative discipline have concluded, allowing him to return to his duties. He was initially suspended due to allegations involving the employment of his wife within the Parliament, with claims suggesting his involvement in the hiring process.

A thorough investigation by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) cleared Tarawally of any wrongdoing. The ACC found that he was unaware of his wife's employment in Parliament and discovered no documentation linking him to the hiring process. As a result, the allegations were dismissed, and his suspension was lifted.

Despite Tarawally's exoneration, the ACC instructed his wife to refund all salaries received during her employment, along with applicable interest, highlighting the Commission's commitment to ethical standards and accountability within public institutions.

Tarawally's return marked a smooth transition back to regular operations under his leadership, resolving a challenging period for both him and the institution. His reinstatement reaffirms his dedication to his responsibilities as Clerk of Parliament, where he will continue overseeing parliamentary affairs and contributing to the legislative process. His return is expected to bring renewed stability and leadership to the Parliament.

The ACC also concluded its investigation into Tarawally and his wife, imposing a five-year ban on his wife from holding public office after she admitted responsibility and refunded the full amount received as salary plus 10% interest. Mrs. Abibatu Paran Tarawally settled the matter under Section 89 (1)(b)(i)(ii) of the Anti-Corruption Act 2008 (as amended in 2019).

Paran Tarawally is an experienced human rights and peace practitioner, paralegal advisor, and detention specialist with fourteen years of expertise in monitoring and reporting on detention conditions in Sierra Leone’s correctional centers and other penitentiary institutions. He also has extensive project management experience with a specific emphasis on a rights-based approach, prior to assuming his role as Clerk of Parliament.
