Sierra Leone’s Ministry of Finance has transferred SLE 54.44 million to the bank accounts of the country’s 22 Local Councils. This substantial amount forms part of the second tranche of grant allocations for the 2024 fiscal year and is intended to support critical devolved sectors.
Of the total funds, SLE 2.06 million has been distributed directly as cash to 1,330 Peripheral Health Centres (MCHP, CHP, & CHC) nationwide. These funds are designated to assist in the management and operation of these essential health facilities, which are crucial in delivering frontline healthcare to communities.
The grant aims to enhance the provision of basic services across various sectors, including education, health, rural water supply, and social assistance programs for disabled and vulnerable populations. Additionally, the funds will aid in solid waste management efforts and cover the administrative costs of the Local Councils.
This financial injection is expected to bolster the capacity of local governments to deliver essential services, thereby improving the quality of life for citizens across Sierra Leone.
